Black Art Matters: Homemade Valentines

On February 12th, staff members of CURA: A Literary Magazine of Art and Action kicked off Valentine's Day weekend by giving out homemade Valentine's Day cards and sweetheart candy at Fordham Rose Hill's McGinley Center.

In 2015 - 2016, CURA is dedicated to the theme of Black Lives Matter and aims to gather voices, art, and action in the struggle for racial justice. The valentines featured inspiring quotes from black writers and artists like Toni Morrison, Langston Hughes, James Baldwin and Nicki Minaj.

Undoing Racism

The sheer volume of these incidents proves that racism is not an isolated problem on our campus; it cannot be written off as one bigoted student in a sea of otherwise “color-blind” students. Whether it’s through reported acts like those listed above, or minor, routine instances of microaggresion, our school has a racism problem. And of course, our nation has a racism problem.
